Every published price

Every published price in Cork, side by side

Composite bonding (also called dental bonding, cosmetic bonding or teeth bonding) is tooth-coloured resin a dentist shapes onto your teeth to cover chips, close gaps or even out worn edges. In Ireland only a registered dentist can do it. We read the price list of every Cork clinic we could find that publishes one: 10 do, and the middle starting price is €200 a tooth.

The lowest published price is €150, at Winning Smile (Carrigaline), Ballincollig Dental Practice (East Gate, Ballincollig) and White Smile Dental Cork (Camden Quay, Cork city). White Smile's €150 is for edge bonding. The highest is €700 a tooth for a composite veneer at Dental Care Ireland Mayfield, twice the next highest Cork figure of €350. Names vary: some clinics say composite bonding, others composite veneers. The bars use each clinic's own label and figures.

How this is worked out

We take every Cork clinic that publishes a per-tooth price, then use the middle (median) of their lowest prices and the middle of their highest prices, times the number of teeth. Where a clinic gives one price, that price counts as both. Edge bonding uses the 2 clinics that price it separately. It is an estimate from published prices, not a quote: your dentist sets the price after looking at your teeth.

Who can do bonding, and how to check

Only a registered dentist can do composite bonding in Ireland. Section 51 of the Dentists Act 1985 makes it an offence for anyone else to practise dentistry. The same goes for professional whitening: gels above 0.1% hydrogen peroxide can only be supplied by a dentist, who must supervise the first use (HPRA).

The Dental Council keeps the register, and you can search it by name or registration number. Our step-by-step guide shows how. There is no specialist register for cosmetic dentistry: the only recognised dental specialties in Ireland are oral surgery and orthodontics (Dental Council).

What bonding fixes

Bonding adds resin to the tooth's surface. Cork clinics use it for chipped teeth, gaps between the front teeth, worn or uneven edges and some discolouration (Winning Smile). It does not move teeth. Winning Smile lists the trade-offs too: bonding is less durable than veneers or crowns, may need replacing after a few years and can stain over time. Compare it with porcelain veneers.

Three costs people miss

  1. The first appointment. Cork clinics list exams and cosmetic consultations from free to €70. The fee sits next to each clinic on the cost page.
  2. Whitening first. Bonding resin does not whiten, so if you want brighter teeth, whiten before bonding. Cork dentists list whitening at €270 to €416. Whitening prices in Cork.
  3. Upkeep. Clinics quote anything from 5 to 15 years before bonding needs redoing, and White Smile Dental's guide puts repairs of damaged bonding at €75 to €150 (White Smile Dental).

Edge bonding, where only the biting edge is built up, costs less: €150 to €180 a tooth at the two Cork clinics that price it separately. Edge bonding prices.

Questions

Price, timing and the rest

How much is composite bonding in Cork?

Composite bonding costs €150 to €700 a tooth in Cork, going by the 10 clinics that publish a price. The middle starting price is €200 a tooth, so six teeth start at about €1,200. Every clinic is listed on the cost page.

What does the first appointment cost?

Cork clinics list exams and cosmetic consultations from free (White Smile Dental's consultation offer, and Cork City Dental's free cosmetic consultation) to €70. Sending a request through this site is free and books nothing.

How long does composite bonding take?

Usually a consultation and then one bonding visit. Winning Smile in Carrigaline says bonding can usually be done in a single visit of up to two hours after the consultation (Winning Smile). After you send a request, we pass it on within 1 working day.

Who is allowed to do composite bonding in Ireland?

Only a registered dentist. Under section 51 of the Dentists Act 1985 it is an offence for anyone who is not a registered dentist to practise dentistry (Dentists Act 1985). You can check any dentist on the Dental Council register in a minute.

How long does composite bonding last?

Cork clinics quote different figures: Winning Smile says 5 to 7 years (Winning Smile), Cork Dental Clinic says composites regularly last 10 to 15 years with care (Cork Dental Clinic). More on the how long bonding lasts page.

Should I whiten my teeth before bonding?

If you want whiter teeth at all, yes. Bonding resin does not respond to whitening, so Winning Smile whitens first with home trays for two weeks and stops at least a week before the bonding appointment so the shade can be matched (Winning Smile). See bonding or whitening.

Can I claim tax back on composite bonding?

Possibly. Revenue lists "veneers or Rembrandt type etched fillings" as non-routine dental treatment, which gets tax relief at 20% with a Med 2 form from your dentist (Revenue). Cork clinics differ: Smiles by Grace marks composite veneers and edge bonding as eligible, while Cork City Dental's relief list names porcelain veneers only. Ask before treatment.
